Signs of heat stress
Panting, rapid breathing, reduced appetite, lower production and animals crowding into shade. Act early when you see these signs.
Practical steps
- Provide enough shade and ventilation; use misters or fans where possible.
- Keep clean, cool water available with enough drinkers.
- Feed in the early morning and after sunset when it is cooler.
- Avoid sudden ration changes and ask a nutritionist about salts and minerals.
- Reduce crowding, handling and transport during peak heat.
When to call a vet
If body temperature climbs sharply or an animal becomes dull or collapses, call a veterinarian immediately.
